HUD's NSPIRE-V standard officially replaces the 1970s-era Housing Quality Standards (HQS) for all Housing Choice Voucher and Project-Based Voucher programs. After three extensions, the final mandatory nationwide compliance date is February 1, 2027. After that date, all Section 8 inspections will strictly enforce the new NSPIRE-V standards — featuring 70 standards, four severity tiers (Life-Threatening, Severe, Moderate, Low), and immediate HAP payment freezes for uncured deficiencies.

Until February 1, 2027
Days remaining until 100% of Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) must enforce NSPIRE-V fails.
Walk every room against HUD's full NSPIRE-V checklist — 72 items sorted by Life-Threatening (24h cure), Severe (30d), Moderate (30d), and Low (60d) so you fix what fails you first.
Every failed item gets a plain-language fix and a direct Home Depot link for the exact part — GFCI outlets, egress latches, smoke alarms, wax rings, and more. No guessing what to buy or how to repair it.
Walk into your inspection with a printed report showing every NSPIRE-V item checked and passing. Inspectors notice prepared landlords — and so do Housing Authorities.
